ACR Messina, the former patron Sciotto: “I sold the company to Aad in good faith”

Pietro Sciotto is now the past of ACR Messina. Eight years of management for the former president who in the summer of 2017 began, driven by the passion for the Giallorossi colors, to a new era of Messina football without collecting the results that was legitimate to expect.

Sciotto yesterday sent a letter to the “Gazzetta”, a document open to the whole city to explain his years to the helm of the company and the reasons that prompted him to sell 80% of the company to a foreign fund revealed insolvent, move that in fact has cleared the hopes of saving the Lega Pro and which still doubts the future of this corporate serial number.

“In this difficult moment for the history of the ACR Messina – thus begins the letter of Pietro Sciotto – I feel the duty, human and moral, to turn directly to the city, to the fans and the press to offer some reflections, in the hope that the truth from prejudices can finally be distinguished, the facts from distorted narratives. I took the guide of Messina driven exclusively by love for these colors and for this city, and in all these years – often in solitude – I have always acted with a single goal: the good of the club. No other entrepreneur, neither the local institutions nor other sponsors, have ever economically supported the project. All the resources used have always come from my personal and family commitment. During my management, Messina managed to go back to Serie C and, not trivial in the national football scene, he never suffered penalties, not even a point. The financial statements were closed in order until the moment of sale. I tried to make football with dignity and a sense of responsibility ».

“Unfortunately, in recent years – continues the entrepreneur of the automotive field -, the continuous pressures by a part of the environment and a hostile narration of certain press forced me, in spite of me, to look for a way out. It was not a serene choice.

The decision to sell the company to a foreign fund – and in particular to the AD Invest – was taken with confidence and in good faith: I imagined it could be the right solution to relaunch society and give new growth prospects.

On July 10, 2025, with 20% of residual shares and no voice in corporate decisions, however, I deemed a last gesture of love for Messina: I paid 450,000 euros to allow the registration to Serie D and the payment of backward salaries. I don’t do it to receive applause, but because I still believe that this team deserves respect and continuity ».

«I know I have not been the perfect president – concludes Pietro Sciotto -, but I also know I have given everything I could. I am not looking for consensus, but truth. Those who today point their finger should wonder what he did – concretely – to help Messina Calcio, before judging those who tried to keep it alive, often alone. With respect, Pietro Sciotto ».
