Maxi confiscation of goods in the provinces of Messina and Crotone. On delegation of the District Anti -Mafia Directorate, the Carabinieri of the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto Company, together with the staff of the Messina Anti -Mafia Investigation Directorate, carried out a provision of the Peloritano court against a couple of spouses considered close to the mafia family of the “Barcelonesi”.

The property prevention measure, linked to the mafia danger of the recipients, concerned two companies in the construction sector, ten vehicles – including work vehicles -, a residential home and ten land, for an estimated total value of about six million euros.

The measure was born from a request from the Messina District Anti -Mafia Directorate following in -depth investigations, developed after the “Gotha IV” operation of January 2018.

On that occasion, the carabinieri had performed precautionary measures against 29 people, between garments and wingmen of the Barcelonse clan, accused in various capacities of mafia association, extortion, detention and illegal port of weapons, fraudulent transfer of values and external competition, all crimes aggravated by the mafia method.

The subsequent economic-financial investigations, coordinated by the DDA and carried out by the Dia and the Carabinieri, brought out how the two spouses had accumulated assets and resources disproportionate to the declared income.

According to the investigators, through a system of extortion to the damage of companies engaged in public works, they had forced some of them to give in to corporate shares, fictitiously interacting to third parties to continue to receive their profits and evade the legislation on prevention measures.

Already in March 2018 the same assets had been the subject of a preventive seizure: now the confiscation marks a further step in the attack on mafia assets, depriving the organized crime of fundamental economic resources.
