San Luca is not only a name engraved on the map of Calabria. It is also a place of the soul, a crossroads of memories, literature and identity. Because Corrado Alvaro, writer, journalist and intellectual among the most refined of the Italian twentieth century was born there. But today, those who try to approach his figure starting from the house where he was born on April 15, 1895, find the door closed. Literally.
From 21 March, the date on which the Board of Directors of the Foundation established on January 24, 1997 was dissolved, with a prefective measure – now under consideration of the TAR on November 18th – that high house as a tower has become a bitter symbol: no longer a living place for culture, but a tight container, removed from its audience.
