In recent days, the Guardia di Finanza has performed an order for pre -trial detention in prison, issued by the Catanzaro court at the request of the District Anti -Mafia Directorate, against two original spouses of Acquappesa and residents of Cetraro. For the investigating judge there are serious clues in relation to the crimes of wear and extortion, aggravated by the mafia method.
The story
The two were already detained for a provision of the Court of Paola (April 2025) linked to usury and extortion against an entrepreneur from Cetraro, conduct that – according to the investigators – would have lasted for over thirty years. The new ordinance concerns the same affair, but receives the results of further investigations that led to contest the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method.
The context in Cetraro
The investigation is located in an area historically marked by the influence of the ‘editor’s note attributable to Franco Muto (“U Longu”, “King of the fish”). In recent years, the territory has been shaken by violent episodes: the injury to Kalashnikov’s blows by Guido Pinto (2022), the murders of Alessandro Cataldo (2023) and Giuseppe Corallo (2025), in addition to intimidating acts such as the destruction of municipal cameras, the fire of vehicles for waste collection and firearm shots against commercial activities.
