Cateno De Luca, mayor of Taormina and founder of the South Party called Nord, replies in a note released to the media yesterday afternoon to the article published by the opening of an investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Messina on the contributions paid to the south call north over the last few years by a whole series of subjects, public and private. Among them, as we have repeatedly written in the past there are politicians, municipal officials, entrepreneurs, who have somehow had relationships before and after the payment with the party he founded.
“The Gazzetta del Sud – says De Luca -, clearly writes that there would be a ‘consolidated practice’ according to which those who pay then receives an assignment, is appointed in a place of undergohaver, obtains a contract or subcontracting in the municipalities of Messina or Taormina. This is the theorem that built: ‘Pay and name you’. It is a very serious and defamatory phrase, as well as totally false ». De Luca clarifies that what the newspaper calls “practice” is actually a statutory forecast of South Calls Nord and of all the other legitimate and transparent parties.
On the alleged case of “request for money” mentioned in the article, De Luca specifies: “The reference to the famous 2,000 euros to ‘speed up a construction practice’ is the result of an anonymous letter arrived on 20 August 2025 to the Municipality of Taormina. In this letter there was talk of that figure and we ourselves deliver it to the Guardia di Finanza because the checks were started. This demonstrates our attitude of full collaboration with the authorities, exactly the opposite of what you want to insinuate “.
