Unscrupulous fishermen use illegal fishing methods damaging the ecosystem and plundering the seabed. FRODO fishing is increasingly alarm in the stretch of sea of Capo Peloro. Upon reporting of the Diving Ecosphere, led by Domenico Majolino and Simona Ratti, the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Messina recovered a huge circuit network to which numerous specimens of fish were caught and, even, a turtle. Ecosphere, but the same fishermen from Torre Faro had repeatedly launched the alarm. In recent months, several fishing boats had been stopped and the load had been seized together with the nets. The Coast Guard, led by the commander Pischedda, thus started a complex activity to get to the removal of the abandoned fishing network on the seabed for the seabed of the Capo Peloro area, at a depth of about 20 meters. 3 naval units were engaged and recovery worked for pre -specialized personnel of the third nucleus underwater operators of the Coast Guard.
The net, of over 200 meters in length and 10 meters wide, was placed on a precious Poseidonia oceanic prairie. It is a protected and fundamental habitat for marine biodiversity.
The intervention was planned with a preliminary assessment of the environmental impact, indispensable to ensure that the operations took place without causing damage to the marine ecosystem, local flora and fauna. The commander of the Port Authority of Messina Luciano Pischedda is satisfied. “Our divers have worked very calmly and attention, demonstrating a high level of professionalism.”
