The Italian Simone Alessio, originally from Sellia Marina, in the Catanzaro area, wins the silver medal in the -87 kg category at the Taekwondo World Championships underway in Wuxi. The Italian champion, already an Olympic bronze medalist in Paris 2024, comes close to achieving his third world championship gold medal in three different categories, after the successes in Manchester 2019 (-74 kg) and Baku 2023 (-80 kg).

In the final Alessio was overtaken by the Egyptian Seif Eissa at the end of a hard-fought and high technical level match. For the Livorno athlete, however, this is a highly prestigious result, which confirms his consistency at the international top of the discipline.

Alessio’s is also the first Italian medal in this edition of the world championships, which sees the participation of almost a thousand athletes from all over the globe. The bronze went to the Polish Szymon Piątkowski and the Ukrainian Artem Harbar, the latter beaten in the semi-final by the Italian champion.

With this new success, Alessio confirms his growth and his leading role in the world panorama of taekwondo, projecting himself towards the next international challenges with increasingly concrete ambitions.
