From Barcelona to Palermo: Reggina, decisive March

March has just begun, but it looks like it could be a decisive month for Reggina’s championship. The break on March 8 reduces the games on the calendar to three, but the fact that there are two direct clashes clarifies the specific weight of the phase that the Amaranth team is preparing to experience.
The focus is already on the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto match, when we will visit one of the leaders. Igea Virtus is at +3 and with eight matches to go this makes it clear how little even a draw risks being. On the 29th, however, we go to Palermo at the home of Athletic who on Thursday, if they win in Enna in injury time, could become the new pacesetter at +4 from the Amaranths. In the middle there is the delicate home match against Acireale, looking for points to escape.
From April onwards, five matches will be played, some of which are difficult, but where the absence of direct comparisons can reduce the opportunities to reduce the gaps. Likewise, a Reggina that were to lose further ground in March would hardly still have room for a new comeback attempt.
Those at the top of the table have started to move a little faster: Savoia and Nissa have won 11 points in the last 5 matchdays, Athletic Palermo 10. All the teams mentioned are above average which is worth the current record in the table (1.92). The only one below is Igea (9 points in the last 5) who however have not lost since 14 December. The team that has done worst in the last 5 is Reggina with only 8 points won. A perhaps physiological slowdown for a team that had won ten wins and a draw before losing in Lamezia. However, there were margins to gain a few more points with better performances than those offered. The success against Sancataldese has rekindled hope, but it needs to be followed up to the bitter end.
The team will return to work on Thursday, after three days of stopping to recover physical and nervous energy. Di Grazia will not be present in Barcelona and he has to wait a few more weeks before recovering from the muscular problem he has had. However, Barillà’s recovery could be approaching.
