The legal case involving the entrepreneur Jerry Alessandro Petretta, 44 years old, administrator of Myleco sas, a company based in Pace del Mela authorized for the transport and disposal of special waste and operating in the sector for over 25 years, ended with a ruling of no need to proceed. The president of the Criminal Section of the Court of Barcelona, Eugenio Fiorentino, in the role of single judge, at the end of the pre-trial hearing held on 11 March, declared that “the disputed fact does not exist”, pronouncing a sentence of acquittal, accepting the defense arguments supported by the lawyer Alessandro Palana.
The entrepreneur had unjustly ended up on trial on charges of abandoning waste, a hypothesis foreseen by Legislative Decree 152 of 2006, in relation to an illegal landfill found in September 2022 in the bed of the Patrì stream, in the territory of Rodì Milici. Around two thousand plastic chairs were found within the seized area, as well as portions of synthetic lawn and other waste of various kinds. According to the initial accusatory approach, that material would have been attributable to the disposal of the grandstand of the Old Cathedral of the Milazzo Castle.
