Mimmo Battaglia – current acting mayor of Reggio – was crowned by the centre-left people as the candidate for mayor who will challenge Eduardo Lamberti Castronuovo, Anna Nucera, Saverio Pazzano and “Mister X” of the centre-right in the next municipal elections on 24 May. The outcome of the center-left primaries seemed obvious on the eve of the day with the Democratic Party candidate clearly favored over Gianni Muraca (reformist House) and Massimo Canale (Orange Wave) and the outcome of the ballot box confirmed this. Around three thousand voters (out of the over seven thousand who went to the 15 polling stations set up in the city) voted for him. Muraca came second and Canale completed the podium of the Reggio centre-left.

In short, the centre-left can be satisfied. On a rainy Sunday in mid-March, in Reggio, there was an authentic celebration of democracy which enhanced popular participation and gave new impetus and enthusiasm in view of the next elections. Obviously satisfied with the outcome of the consultation Mimmo Battaglia wanted to thank everyone who voted for him and those who still went to the polls: «The great participation of the people of Reggio is a result that reconciles with politics. I am happy with the result, because it means that the people of Reggio have faith in me, in the work done and they sense my credibility and listening ability demonstrated over the years. I am also happy to have gathered all the souls of the Democratic Party around my people and yet, I already feel the weight of responsibility in view of the next elections in May.”
