It’s a historic Monday for Italian men’s tennis: for the first time, in fact, Italy can boast four players among the top 20 in the world. Lead by Jannik Sinner, number 2, the first Italian capable of climbing to the top of the ATP rankings. Followed by Lorenzo Musetti (5) and Flavio Cobolli, who improves his best ranking and rises to position number 14, as well as celebrating his success at Indian Wells in mixed doubles with Belinda Bencic.

The record was made possible by the rise to 18th place of Luciano Darderi, the 14th Italian player to enter the top 20 in the world in the ATP ranking since the ATP ranking was introduced in 1973. The first Masters 1000 of the season allowed Sinner to reduce the gap from Carlos Alcaraz, still leader of the world ranking, from 3,150 to 2,200 points. The blue cannot surpass Alcaraz even after Miami, which awards 1,000 points, and therefore the Spanish champion is sure to equal Sinner’s 66 overall weeks as number 1: it will happen next April 6th.
However, the champion from San Candido has no points to defend until the Italian Internationals, while Alcaraz, who confirmed the semi-final reached in Indian Wells in 2025 but suffered his first defeat of the season against Daniil Medvedev, who has returned to the top 10, in the same period will see the 1,000 points of the victory in Monte Carlo, 330 in Barcelona and only 10 in Miami.
