Another pearl from Jannik Sinner. The Italian tennis player won the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells for the first time in his career. The South Tyrolean, number two in the world and in the seeding, beat the Russian Daniil Medvedev, number 11 in the draw and in the ATP rankings, in the final with a score of 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) after just under two hours of play. The comeback in the tie-break of the second set was incredible, when Sinner scored seven points in a row, down 4-0.
Under the scorching California sun, with temperatures around 33 degrees, Sinner fought and “tamed” his rival, fresh from the beautiful victory in the semi-final against the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. This success in the “Bnp Paribas Open”, the first Masters 1000 of the season, played on the hard courts of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden (with total prize money of 9,415,725 dollars), relaunches the Italian in the race towards the top of the international ranking. For Sinner it was the 34th final of his career: he now boasts 25 titles, of which 4 Slams and six Masters 1000. For Medvedev, who will return to the ATP top ten from tomorrow, it was instead the 43rd final act in the top circuit, in which he triumphed on 23 occasions. And the dedication, for the use of the camera, is all for Antonelli, who triumphed in Formula 1: “Well done Kimi”.
In the women’s tournament, Aryna Sabalenka won against Elena Rybakina in the tie-break of the third set, with a score of 3-6 6-3 7-6 (6). Finally, in the mixed doubles, it is worth mentioning the success of the pair formed by the Roman by adoption Flavio Cobolli and the Swiss Belinda Bencic, who in the final beat the duo made up of the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and the British Lloyd Glasspool with a score of 6-3 2-6 10-7.
