Crackdown by the police against degradation and drug dealing in the heart of the university city. On the proposal of the Compagnia di Rende, the police commissioner of Cosenza ordered the temporary suspension of the license and the simultaneous closure of a well-known public establishment in the Rendese area.
The venue as a logistics base
The provision, notified by the soldiers of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit (NOR), was not triggered due to simple administrative irregularities, but is the epilogue of careful investigative activity. The monitoring and shadowing carried out by the Army have in fact ascertained that the place had become a real regular meeting point for convicted criminals and people involved in drug dealing.
The suspicious coming and going of faces known to the police had generated alarm among residents, compromising the safety and tranquility of the neighborhood.
The state’s response
The measure was adopted pursuant to the Consolidated Law on Public Security (TULPS), which gives the Police Commissioner the power to suspend activities that constitute a danger to public order. The Carabinieri provided a solid evidential framework which pushed the Public Security Authority to intervene decisively to “clean up” the area from criminal phenomena.
Constant monitoring of the territory
The operation is part of the extraordinary territorial control plan coordinated by the Provincial Command of Cosenza. The declared objective is twofold:
Repression: Hit hard on drug dealing networks.
Prevention: Return urban spaces to citizens, removing them from the control of crime.
“Security is a common objective”, they recall from the Corps, inviting citizens to continue to report suspicious situations to preserve the social and economic fabric of the Brutia community.
