“This Easter we accompany the weak along the paths of hope”. The words of the bishop, Monsignor Giovanni Accolla, sanctioned the arrival of the Barette in the Cathedral. A different route due to the rain which however did not interrupt the ritual. The procession left the Nuovo Oratorio della Pace e Bianchi church at 5.30pm and is traveling through the streets of the centre: Corso Cavour and, for a short stretch, Via Tommaso Cannizzaro up to Via Cesare Battisti. Awaiting the procession in Piazza Duomo was Archbishop Accolla who, at the end of the liturgical action of the adoration of the Cross, blessed the faithful. Immediately after 11 Barette returned to the base, with the suggestive ‘nchianata along Via Oratorio San Francesco. The procession was accompanied by the city’s musical bands and enriched by the presence of some historical figures, biancuzze, babbaluci and maddalene.
Also this afternoon, the ancient rite of dressing the Madonna was renewed in the Mercede church, in which only women were able to participate.
