Marc, a strategic plan to build culture

There is a new tool which, in an organic way, defines the vision, priorities and actions of the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria in the medium term and strengthens its weight on the national and international museum stage. It is the 2026–2028 strategic plan adopted for the first time by Marc and presented by director Fabrizio Sudano on a day that had the flavor of a gamble and innovation. A thin thread between the past (the Plan also includes the previous two years of Marc’s activity), the present and a more aware and responsible future with some fixed points to be relaunched: identity; dialogue with the territory, with the public and with the institutions and investment in research.
«We promote an integrated vision for a connected, accessible and international museum. A structured programming that allows strategic choices to be oriented in a coherent and systemic way, avoiding fragmentation and discontinuity and laying the foundations for sustainable, inclusive development”, underlines director Sudano. Acting as a common thread between the various interventions, moderated by the teacher Stefania Mancuso, is cultural valorization as an active act and the system of knowledge and culture which – according to the vice-rector of the Mediterranean University Antonio Taccone – must fuel the knowledge economy. «Museums, academies and local authorities must start building common processes», remarks the director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Reggio, Piero Sacchetti. Lorenzo Labate recalls points of contact with the Reggio Calabria Chamber of Commerce of which he is vice president: «Quality in services, hospitality, sustainability and research in an open system that interacts with the local community and with the world of institutions». «The strategic plan confirms a vision of a city that is increasingly cultural, attractive and open to an international dimension», highlights the municipal councilor Carmelo Romeo.
Therefore, participation and sharing are the pulsating values within an integrated approach to addressing and coordinating the cultural, organizational and management policies of the Marc. Among the objectives, the consolidation of the Museum’s role as a reference for the history and archeology of Magna Graecia; the leap in quality of the museum experience with coordinated interventions on physical, cognitive and digital accessibility, on the care of spaces and on cultural programming.
In this context, the protection, conservation and digitalisation of collections become a strategic axis for the lasting valorisation of the heritage. A characterizing dimension is the international propensity which translates into the ability to attract foreign visitors and develop collaboration and partnership networks at a global level. This double track is underlined by Professor Ludovico Solima, professor of management at the Vanvitelli University of Naples who collaborated in the drafting of the Plan, and recalls its rigorous path: data analysis, listening and ability to translate planning into concrete and sustainable actions. «This is the main way to enhance the heritage, the public function of the Museum and its projection in the Mediterranean context».
