Mayor Franz Caruso celebrated the victory of the “Smile Cosenza” women’s water polo team at the recent Conference Cup held in Greece at Palazzo dei Bruzi, welcoming a representation of the players who triumphed in the prestigious European competition. The Cosenza women’s water polo team deservedly won the important title in the final in Athens, beating the Spanish team Sant Feliu after a hard-fought match.

The girls of mister Gaetano Occhione, coach of the “Smile Cosenza Water Polo, as well as the technician, were accompanied to Palazzo dei Bruzi by the President Francesco Manna and the manager Andrea Borsani. The Mayor Franz Caruso, together with the Deputy Mayor Maria Locanto and the city councilor Francesco Turco, received the players Federica Morrone, Cristina Malluzzo and Giusy Citino who brought with them the very important European trophy that they won on the occasion of their first participation in the Conference Cup.

“You are our pride and pride – said Mayor Franz Caruso – and this reception hall which saw you as our guests even before leaving for the preliminary round of the Conference Cup held in Romania, brought you luck, if it is true as it is true that today you are returning after having raised the prestigious trophy to the sky in the final in Athens”. The Mayor congratulated the management of the “Smile Cosenza Water Polo”, primarily with the President Francesco Manna, but also with the coach Gaetano Occhione “who was able to shape – underlined Franz Caruso – the girls of the Cosenza team by instilling in them that strength and determination that reside in his character and in his long experience in water polo.

Smile Cosenza has written history in Athens, but we are certain that this goal, which is undoubtedly the result of careful and meticulous planning work, cannot be just a point of arrival, but becomes the starting point of a new phase of successes which, judging from the incredible result obtained, will certainly not be precluded from our water polo players”. Before the end of the match, the “Smile” girls took turns and with them the coach and managers posed, together with the Mayor Franz Caruso in front of the Conference Cup pleasantly lingering to sign the honor book of the illustrious guests of Palazzo dei Bruzi.
