The notice for the granting of incentives for agile working, the so-called “South working”, has been published on the Irfis website. The measure desired by the Schifani government to encourage the stay or return to the island of Sicilian workers hired by companies based in the rest of Italy or in foreign countries, including non-EU countries, and established with law 1 of last January, thus becomes operational.

«We want to exploit – says the President of the Region Renato Schifani, who is also the interim Labor Minister – the possibilities offered by new information and digital technologies to ensure that many young Sicilian resources, who have gone abroad to pursue their professional vocation, can return and carry out their work here, but also to prevent others from leaving for the same reason. We allow them to work in Sicily while maintaining the relationship with their company based outside the island or abroad.”

Applications must be submitted starting from 12pm on June 30th on the IT platform made available according to the methods indicated on the website https://incentivisicilia.irfis.it until the financial allocation is exhausted. Companies with a production unit located in the European Union or even in a non-EU country can submit an application, provided they comply with the requirements set out in the notice. Companies with production units outside Sicily must have made new hires of permanent Sicilian workers after 9 January 2026, or have transformed the relationships from fixed-term to permanent. The contribution is equal to 30 thousand euros for each worker, for the entire five-year period.
The disbursement takes place in 5 annual installments of six thousand euros each. On the date of granting the contribution, the worker must be resident in Sicily.

The relationship must provide for the performance of the service in Sicily, in a predominantly agile manner, for at least 5 years, with presence in the company premises for no more than 20% of the working days per year. The overall budget is equal to 18 million euros per year until 2028.

«It is a unique measure of its kind – adds the president – to combat the “brain drain”, a far-sighted use of the resources at our disposal because it aims to keep the best professional energies that can contribute to the growth of our region here. Sicily, by exploiting the possibilities offered by new information and communication technologies, can reverse a destiny of geographical and economic marginality and return to the centre, becoming a platform capable of attracting workers thanks to everything it can offer, also in terms of quality of life”.

Irfis-FinSicilia will take care of the preliminary phases of the applications and provide the benefits. The finance company of the Sicilian Region will also carry out checks on the veracity of the declarations contained in the requests.
