Suffering but winning debut for Jasmine Paolini at the «Mutua Madrid Open», the WTA 1000 underway on the red clay of Caja Magica. The Italian tennis player, number 9 in the world ranking and eighth seed, after the bye in the first round, prevailed in the round of 32 over German Laura Siegemund, number 47 WTA, with a score of 3-6 6-2 6-4.
Comeback after an uphill start
Complicated start for the Italian, who lost the first set 3-6, before changing pace in the second set, which ended 6-2. The third set was more balanced, resolved by Paolini at 6-4, which allowed her to reach the round of 32.
In the next round she will face the winner of the challenge between the American Hailey Baptiste and the Spanish Kaitlin Quevedo.
Sabalenka and Swiatek also advance
Positive debuts also for the other big names of the tournament. Aryna Sabalenka, world number 1 and reigning champion, beat the American Peyton Stearns with a score of 7-5 6-3, achieving her first victory of the season on clay.
No problems however for Iga Swiatek, number 4 in the ranking and seeding, who dominated the Ukrainian Daria Snihur with a clear 6-1 6-2.
