Tadej Pogacar wins the 112th edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège solo. After the disappointment of Paris-Roubaix, the Slovenian champion managed to overtake Paul Seixas in the last race of the day. The Frenchman then finished second 43″ behind, with the Belgian Remco Evenepoel third. A fall in the first kilometers inflamed the race, splitting the group in two, with the UAE remaining behind and the Evenepoel-Bernal pair pulling hard together with their teammates to be able to put the Slovenian in difficulty. Despite the advantage gained, the two most dangerous fugitives were caught 100 km from the finish line, on the Cote de Stockeu the group returned to being compact.
The decisive outburst came on La Redoute, with Pogacar’s attack: only the young Paul Seixas managed to stay in contact with the reigning world champion. The small group led by Evenepoel remained at 40″ trying to catch up with the pair in the lead, but the two continued straight to the finish line. The Slovenian world champion attacked again on the Cote de la Roche aux Faucons, -500 meters from the end of the climb the transalpine baby paid for the effort and broke away. Pogacar forcefully conquers his third Monument Classic of the season, placing his for the fourth time (the third in a row) name in the Doyenne roll of honour.
