The full-time permanent contracts were signed yesterday for 17 workers from the former Servirail and former Ferrotel basins, who officially become part of SAS (Sicilian Auxiliary Services) and will be employed by the Sicilian Motorway Consortium.
Of the 17 stabilized workers, 16 are from Messina and one from Palermo. A result awaited for many years which puts an end to a long history of precariousness, job uncertainty and failed promises.
“This is a historic day that changes the lives of these men and women forever – declares the Hon. Antonio De Luca, group leader of the 5 Star Movement at the Sicilian Regional Assembly – which allows them to definitively emerge from a condition of instability that has persisted for too many years”.
The parliamentarian from Messina underlines the path that led to stabilization: “The battle of the former Ferrotel and former Servirail is a battle that I have carried out for years, step by step, following each phase, with concrete acts, regulations, reminders and institutional discussions, to prevent these workers from remaining without prospects and without a future. It was no longer acceptable that they continued to be hostage to delays and uncertainties”.
“The signing of the contracts represents not only an employment response, but also the concrete response to a commitment I made years ago. From today these people are no longer “ex”, but workers who can finally look to the future with serenity and confidence”.
“Today’s achievement – concludes Antonio De Luca – is the concrete result of a constant political commitment to combat precarious employment and guarantee rights carried out with determination and obstinacy since my first day in Parliament. I will continue to work with the 5 Star Movement so that no worker is left behind and so that these situations of infinite precarious employment are never repeated again”.
