The presentation of a complaint for the Messina case which could lead Reggina to win the championship through the back door does not seem to warm the spirits in Amaranth circles. Theoretically, it would be necessary to exclude the Peloritani or to create the conditions to have two wins in the derbies, in addition to beating Sambiase on Sunday.
The interpretation of the regulations offers some hypothetical support regarding the doubts about the Giallorossi memberships, but this has not ignited the frantic desire to see clearly in the collective thought and not only because it does not seem like such a simple scenario.
Over the last thirty years Reggina has been involved in “matches” off the pitch several times. Those who remember remember, for example, the guarantees in Serie A, the return of points that led to the play-out win (again with Messina) in 2015, the repechage in Serie C in 2016, the promotion in 2020 post-Covid and the exclusion, which then occurred, from the 2023 Serie B championship.
In previous cases, however, it was almost always a question of defending what was achieved on the field. This time dealing with off-field issues may seem like a treacherous climb after a unsuccessful footballing championship (although not yet arithmetically closed). However, the club’s position remains legitimate, in a world of football where almost no one looks at anyone else.
However, there is a strong suspicion that, from now on, this society is destined to live with a growing feeling of loneliness. The continuing lack of results on the field inevitably leads to a lack of confidence among a large part of the fans.
In the midst of the electoral campaign in Reggio it is difficult to find anyone who has openly supported this Reggina on the “exposed” issue or for the future in general. It is easier, however, to feel the desire in the air to move on even more than a year ago.
The merit of Ballarino and Minniti was to have recomposed Reggina when it was just ashes. The results were also lacking due to bad luck, but football cannot be explained only by good and bad luck. To say, however, that nothing has been done would still be wrong. As well as stating that they should leave without demanding anything. But one wonders what Reggina’s next year would be with the current ownership possibly still in Serie D.
