Mayor Cateno De Luca comments on the Mediterranean Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Center (CCPM) in Taormina, claiming the result of the structure’s inclusion in the regional hospital network and announcing new institutional steps to guarantee its continuity.
“On the CCPM of Taormina I have followed the story from the beginning – states De Luca -. As mayor I strongly asked that it be included in the regional hospital network and I must recognize that the president Renato Schifani has kept his commitment. Things must be called by name and surname: Schifani, at my express request, did what had not been done for ten years”.
For the mayor, inclusion in the hospital network represents only a first step: “Now we are waiting for the reorganization plan of the hospital network to be defined and finally approved.” Also at the center of the discussion is the role of the Child Jesus, in relation to which De Luca invites us not to fuel tensions: “We need to understand well what this communication means. Yesterday I was contacted by President Schifani, who reassured me about the matter and confirmed that we will go to Rome together: him as President of the Region, me as Mayor of Taormina”.
The objective of the discussion in the Capital will be to guarantee the continuity of the service and the permanence of the healthcare team that has been operating in the structure for over twenty years: “We will go to meet the Child Jesus and carry out all the necessary steps so that the team that has distinguished itself in over twenty years of activity remains in Taormina”. De Luca also underlines the need for a clear administrative path: “The management aspects are not the responsibility of the mayor, but must be set up correctly to guarantee compatibility with the request of the Sicilian Region: to keep that team and this service in Taormina”. Finally, the mayor rejects any political controversy on the matter: “On such a delicate issue, I reject any exploitation of the sender. We move forward with seriousness, responsibility and good administration”.
