The Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, welcomed the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to the Farnesina for a bilateral summit. On the agenda, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says, is a discussion on the main themes of the international agenda and the strengthening of Italy-USA relations.
At the center of the talks are the war in Iran, the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and initiatives for freedom of navigation, the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel and the disarmament of Hezbollah, the post-UNIFIL future, Ukraine and the transition in Venezuela and Cuba. Tajani and Rubio will also discuss EU-US relations, including the topic of critical minerals. Rubio is therefore expected at 11:30 at Palazzo Chigi by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, the last stop of the visit to Rome by the head of Washington’s diplomacy.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio received a family tree that reconstructs his Piedmontese origins during his meeting with Tajani at the Farnesina. “It’s a special moment to receive all this information and it’s an incredible experience and all the more reason to come back soon, visit the Region, learn about it and connect to the past, hoping that it will also serve as inspiration for how we can work together in the future,” Rubio said.
Meloni welcomes Rubio to Palazzo Chigi
With a handshake and an exchange of kisses, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio greeted each other in the Sala dei Galleoni of Palazzo Chigi, where their meeting began. «How are you?», Meloni asked his guest, before posing for photos in front of the pool of journalists and photographers. Rubio, shortly before, had been welcomed in the honor courtyard of Palazzo Chigi by the prime minister’s diplomatic advisor, Fabrizio Saggio. The US delegation also includes the US ambassador to Italy, Tilman J. Fertitta.
