An environmental massacre that has been going on for years. Between torrents and illegal landfills. Yet another endured by Messina and its province. The damage to the area will not be easy to repair.
This is undoubtedly the most important aspect of the Dia investigation coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia directed by Messina’s chief prosecutor Antonio D’Amato which on Thursday saw the arrest of the brothers Nicola and Domenico Pellegrino from Santa Margherita, in the southern area of the city, and the disqualification measure against the entrepreneur Roberto Cacopardo, with the preventive seizure of his company, Angela Costruzioni, of which according to the Dia, the two brothers were “possessed” to continue working in earthmoving despite the definitive confiscation of their assets.
But there is more to this investigation after the first precautionary custody order from investigating judge Tiziana Leanza, which challenges the fictitious ownership of the company to the three main suspects, with the aggravating mafia charge, from 25 February 2022 to the present day.
In this matter there is in fact a second order, signed by investigating judge Ornella Pastore, notified by the Dia to 18 other suspects, in which a series of environmental crimes are accused of the two Pellegrinos, Cacopardo, and several entrepreneurs and private clients who turned to the Pellegrinos for the disposal of debris from their construction sites. Exactly as had happened in previous years for another investigation, the one relating to the illegal disposal managed by the Mancuso brothers from Gravitelli.
