Red room packed for the dialogue between the singer-songwriter Dario Brunori and the writer Vito Teti on “Words and cultures of the remainder between vision and possibility.
In the conversation, enlivened by Brunori’s notes with The truth, The nut tree, Lamezia Milano and many of his other successes, we discussed how to build a new sense of places and of ourselves. A meeting – organized by the Calabria Region and Calabria Film Commission – which intertwined anthropological thought and artistic narration. The result was a reflection on the contemporary meaning of living: between the desire and the possibility of regenerating places and communities. At the centre, the thought of Vito Teti, one of the main scholars of Southern countries and depopulation processes, who developed the concept of “remainder” as an active and conscious way of staying. Next to him, Dario Brunori, one of the most appreciated contemporary singer-songwriters, whose poetics lies in the rare ability to hold roots and complexity together, without giving in to rhetoric or easy disenchantment, giving voice to a human, ironic and profoundly authentic image of the province. Moderator is Tommaso Labate, journalist from Corriere della Sera, former host of “Non è un Paese per Giovani” on Rai Radio2 and currently host of the television program Realpolitik on Rete4, capable of leading the discussion with a clear gaze and a clear narrative sensitivity.
Literature and cinema for the story of the territory
Literature and cinema as tools for describing the territory, the basis of the comparison between contemporary authors Carmine Abate, Vito Teti, Angela Bubba, Domenico Gangemi, Gioacchino Criaco, Domenico Dara, Annarosa Macrì and Anna Mallamo, in dialogue with the president Anton Giulio Grande of the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, coordinated by the director Giampaolo Calabrese.
Homage to Franco Costabile between poetry and sound experimentation
“Something has to change too.” For a new reading of Franco Costabile, in the pavilion of the Calabria Region, the teacher and essayist Pasqualino Bongiovanni and the multi-instrumentalist NAIP discussed the figure and work of Franco Costabile, one of the most intense voices of the second half of the twentieth century, coordinated by Salvatore Giuseppe Di Spena. Bongiovanni offered a critical reading capable of restoring the linguistic radicality and ethical urgency of Costabile’s poetry, while NAIP, performer and author of electronic music, spoken word and experimentation, narrated the poet’s texts through a sonic and contemporary gaze.
Reading ecosystems and libraries as community spaces
Great emphasis also on the comparison between the Calabria Region and library and cultural realities on new models of reading and libraries as a space for community, access and participation in the territories. The regional director of Uoa Development and Cultural Systems, Maria Antonella Cauteruccio, Manuela Arminio, Gilda De Caro, Tiziana Gallo, Regional Library Systems, spoke on the topic linked to “Reading ecosystems: communities, libraries and new cultural practices”, with Gemma Anais Principe.
