The Flying Squad policemen carried out several checks and searches on some public housing buildings in the Borgata Giardini and Calopinace areas, which had previously been identified as places of aggregation of individuals known to the investigators.
In particular, the attention of the Mobile men was focused on apparently uninhabited homes which could well be used as a storage place for weapons or drugs.
Inside one of these, kept in a backpack hidden in a locker, the following were found:
– 2 sawn-off shotguns
– 1 rifle modified and suitable for burst shooting
– 1 pistol
– 200 cartridges of various calibers.
The weapons, with abraded serial number, are in excellent condition and in perfect working order.
At present, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Reggio Calabria, investigations are underway by the Flying Squad and the Scientific Police aimed at reconstructing the origin of the weapons and their possible use in previous criminal episodes.
