On Friday 22 May, from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm, the courtyard of the Rectorate of Messina will host the swap party – give your clothes a second life. The initiative, which is part of the day of the University of Messina dedicated to sustainability aims to counteract the phenomenon of fast fashion and disposable promoting the circular economy and responsible consumption through the barter of clothing.
The event is organized by the “Crescendo” association in collaboration with the university ambassadors and the technical table of the student community of the University Network for Sustainable Development, with the patronage of the University of Messina. Born from a student proposal developed with professor Roberta Salomone and doctoral student Giuseppe Macaione this event is part of a national circuit that will simultaneously involve other important Italian universities, such as the Polytechnic of Milan, the IUAV of Venice and the University of Macerata.
In addition to the environmental value, the meeting will have a strong solidarity and training aspect : the clothes not exchanged will in fact be donated to the “Infinity” and “Sagittarius Volunteer Organization” associations to support people in need. Other items will instead be destined for an ecological design project that will involve high school students in the creative transformation of old clothing.
