The electoral campaign is coming to an end and the countdown has actually begun in view of the two days of voting. On Saturday and Sunday the citizens of Barcelona will express their preference, indicating who will wear the tricolor sash between Nicola Barbera (centre-right), David Bongiovanni (centre-left) and Melangela Scolaro (South calls North). By midnight today the three mayoral candidates will try to touch the right chords in the hearts of the last undecideds. Then, tomorrow’s electoral silence will precede two days in which the city will be in fibrillation, awaiting the results of the polls expected on Monday afternoon. Very difficult to make predictions. Nicola Barbera has received the support of the once again cohesive city center-right, thanks to the support of nine lists of candidates for the city council. David Bongiovanni is the sole expression of the coalition which includes the PD, M5S, Movimento Città Aperta and the PSI, even if the latter, after having expressed its support for Bongiovanni, did not present its own list. Melangela Scolaro has built a coalition that also includes well-known faces from the center-right of the recent past, Ilenia Torre (designated deputy mayor in the event of victory) of Barcelona in the Municipality and some protagonists of Barcelona’s political life of the last decade: among these the lawyer Giuseppe Sottile – already a candidate for mayor twice – and the lawyer Paolo Pino, for some time councilor of the outgoing municipal administration and with a significant past in the ranks of the Democratic Party.
