The choice of side was in the air and was revealed on the last day of the electoral campaign: while the centre-left mayoral candidate, Antonella Russo, spoke to her voters from the stage in Piazza Lo Sardo, one of the leading exponents of the centre-left itself, the senator of Italia Viva Dafne Musolino, chose another square, that of Marcello Scurria, the centre-right mayoral candidate. Musolino – who in recent days had already distanced himself from the bill presented by the Democratic Party on “Messina, gateway to the Mediterranean” – did not participate in any of the centre-left events in this electoral campaign, with the exception of a fleeting appearance at the press conference presenting the joint symbol of M5S and Controcorrente, and did not contribute, at least directly, to the lists of candidates. Yesterday evening, a few hours after the electoral silence, the choice of field: Piazza Casa Pia, to attend and applaud Scurria’s rally. A choice that will cause discussion within the progressive camp, even after tomorrow’s and Monday’s vote.
