A contagious festive atmosphere ignited joyous spirits in Merì after Giusi Cicciari’s victory. The emotion of the new mayor is still great, as she is, among other things, the granddaughter of the late historic mayor, doctor Vittorio Rundo, to whom she herself wanted to pay tribute to this important milestone. «I dedicate this victory to my uncle who is no longer here, but who was decisive in my political journey – said Giusi Cicciari with his voice breaking with emotion -. The dedication extends to my family and the extended family represented by my team and the Meriese community. I will base my political activity on dialogue and communication – he underlined –. The priority of the administrative activity will be the analysis of the municipal budget together with the desire to intercept European, state and regional funding”. During yesterday morning’s proclamation, Cicciari was joined not only by numerous supporters, but also by the regional deputy Pino Galluzzo. «Giusi is for me first of all an important friend and a spearhead of Fratelli d’Italia. It was a real joy to participate in his proclamation”, said the Hon. Galluzzo.
The new geography in the city council provides for 7 councilors who will sit on the majority benches and 3 on the minority benches. The candidate for the Council with the most votes is Maria Catena Borghese with 223 preferences. Followed by Carmelo Arcoraci with 214, former deputy mayor and councilor of the Municipality of Merì and now designated within the Executive together with Lorenz Messina, Carmelo De Paola and Lorenza Bucca. Brilliant result also for Laura Rugulo, who obtained 185 preferences and who in the past held the roles of Prime Minister and councilor. Francesco Bonina also took home the three figures with 162 votes, Lorenz Messina with 127, Salvatore Pino with 125 and Noemi Antonuccio with 106.
Excellent numbers also for the candidates of the defeated list in support of the Siracusa candidate. Vittorio Formica in fact received 199 preferences and Vincenza Quaglieri, former councilor of the Bonansinga Administration, 190. Both will be joined in the Chamber by Nino Siracusa, who is entitled to a seat in the city council. «I would like to thank all the people who have supported and voted for us in recent months, the political group that we have formed and of which we are so proud, all our families and friends – declares Nino Siracusa, without hiding the bitterness of the defeat -. We are proud of the work carried out in recent years and of the thriving legacy we have left to the Meriese citizens and the new Administration”.
Giusi Cicciari, 39 years old, psychologist and dance teacher in the Academy she manages in Merì, is the first female mayor in the history of the municipality bordering Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto.
