Once the euphoria of the party has worn off, the time for institutional commitment and the first strategic choices is approaching for Mimmo Romeo and his “Alba Nuova” project. Starting from the composition of the council. A horizon that is already current and which will have to take into account some important factors: from the most experienced figures present in the majority to the logic of the numbers coming out of the polls. Signs in this direction should arrive in the next few days.
In the “day after”, the analysis of the vote carved out an important space for itself. The vote for Romeo undoubtedly enjoyed a good portion of the centre-right electorate: however, significant parts of the centre-left preferred the leader of “Alba Nuova” to the area candidate. Furthermore, an exceptional personal consensus would have poured into the new mayor, capable of leading a very young list full of first-time candidates.
Between experience and many new features
The latter is a dynamic that is completely evident in the composition of the new Council. Romeo will be able to count on the more experienced Gallo, Arcuri and Di Giorgio. Then, a long list of new features: Marcello Romeo (first of those elected and nephew of the mayor), Demoro, Marzico, Panarello, Raso (already nominated in the past but never elected before), Savoia, Sicari, Timpano. The members of the opposition, however, are all long-standing politicians.
Yesterday morning, around one o’clock, the proclamation of the new elected officials in the premises of the second “Sofia Alessio” club. «I hope for a constructive dialogue for the good of Taurianova – stated Mimmo Romeo to the Gazzetta del Sud – in a climate different from that experienced during the electoral campaign. Personal attacks and unfairness leave room for discussion on real policies and participatory action for the construction of the future.”
The losers, Biasi and Lo Prete
The outgoing mayor Roy Biasi took to social media to send a message of thanks to the city and its team of administrators, relaunching his personal commitment. Accompanying the text is a photo with a sign from the Libera association. «I chose this photo to say goodbye to this position – he said – it is not a random choice. It is the manifesto of what we wanted and what we built together: a city that is finally free. I leave a Taurianova who has finally become kind. A community that has learned to talk to each other, to collaborate, to look each other in the eyes without fear, but with solidarity. In recent years we have worked tirelessly, thanks to a team of real, extraordinary people, administrators like few others, appreciated throughout the region. We have traced a clear and irreversible path. The car is launched, the engine is powerful, the projects are ready to flourish. My commitment to Taurianova does not end here.”
The analysis of the leader of “Radici e Futuro” Raffaele Loprete is also clear. «The electoral result – he explained – although not the one we had hoped for, does not close our journey. Instead, he opens it. To those who have placed their trust in us, we say clearly: that vote will not be wasted. “Radici e Futuro” will continue to be present in the public life of the city. He will do it with seriousness, balance and firmness. We will be a free, vigilant and constructive voice. We will evaluate the administrative acts on their merit, not on their belonging, supporting every choice useful to Taurianova”.
