The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has awarded Calabria 7.8 million euros for the implementation of ten interventions consistent with the objectives of the National Nature Restoration Plan (PNR). The news was announced by the regional councilor for the environment, Antonio Montuoro. The projects that will be financed concern the protection of pollinators, the mapping of old-growth forests, the conservation of endemic botanical and faunal species and interventions to remove waste from the seabed and from sites of naturalistic value.
It is a signal that comes at a time of strong national institutional tension on the Plan. Just last Saturday, the president of Ance Calabria, Roberto Rugna, and the five provincial presidents of the building builders’ association had written to the entire Calabrian parliamentary delegation to raise the alarm on the “significant critical issues” contained in the draft Plan, currently in public consultation.
