The consolidation of the Ringa district in San Pier Niceto, in the Messina area, can begin. The Structure for the fight against hydrogeological instability, led by the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani and directed by Sergio Tumminello, awarded the works, putting an end to a situation of risk and danger for the entire area. They will be carried out by a temporary association of companies coordinated by Promedil Giorgio Di Stefano of Partanna (Tp), due to a reduction of 26.02 percent and for an amount of 2.8 million euros.

This completes the work begun with a first intervention in the 1980s, which did not eliminate all the existing critical issues on this south-eastern side which has the highest risk classification, R4. In the last period, in fact, there has been a worsening of the general situation with several landslides which have caused damage to private buildings and the road system.

Among the technical solutions contained in the design underlying the works, the construction of reinforced concrete pile bulkheads and water regulation, but also the restoration of the existing canal. Drainage and environmental restoration works are also planned. Furthermore, terraces will be set up in the sections of the slope affected by the interventions, through a series of flexible metal gabion walls filled with stone.
