This afternoon, the Coast Guard rescued a surfer in difficulty in the waters off the Falcata area in Messina. The report reached the operations room of the Port Authority, which arranged for the GC A82 patrol boat, engaged in the maritime surveillance and safety device in the Strait, to be sent to the site. The Coast Guard unit identified the surfer, who was in obvious difficulty due to the sea conditions and the current present in the affected body of water. The soldiers recovered the man, made him board the patrol boat and transported him to land.
The warning from the Coast Guard
«The intervention confirms once again the importance of paying maximum attention during sporting and recreational activities in the water, especially in the Strait of Messina, characterized by particular currents and weather conditions that can quickly put even the most expert navigators into difficulty», recalls the Coast Guard.
