Hygiene-sanitary irregularities in a panic factory in the Catanzaro area, the owner fined

The Carabinieri of the Sersale station, with the support of the specialized personnel of the Anti-adulteration and Health Unit of Catanzaro, carried out an inspection inside a bakery located at the foot of the Sila Piccola.

The inspection activity, aimed at verifying compliance with current regulations on public health and food safety, allowed the military to ascertain various health and hygiene irregularities within the commercial establishment.

Financial penalty for the owner

At the end of the checks, the owner of the business was sanctioned with an administrative fine of 1,000 euros. At the same time, a warning was issued to the manager aimed at adapting the structure to the requirements imposed by the competent bodies.

During the inspection, aimed at verifying public health and food safety regulations, the military found itself faced with widespread negligence in the management and maintenance of the structure. Inspecting the business, they in fact noted the absence of the necessary mosquito nets and the presence of a wooden counter instead of steel.

The structural deficiencies of the rooms were also evident: the ceiling and walls, not painted for some time, were noticeably blackened by fumes, with several parts of plaster missing or detached.

However, the most significant critical issues were found within the bread-making laboratory, which was found not to be adequate for current hygiene regulations. The working environment was in fact old, with the presence of wooden surfaces and structures which, according to the regulations, should be replaced with the more hygienic washable steel.

The situation was further aggravated by the mixed use of the premises: the area was in fact also used as a firewood store, stacked in the same room where the mixer and the areas intended for the production and storage of food were located, exposed to a real risk of contamination.

The operation falls within the scope of the services provided to ensure compliance with the rules on food hygiene and safety, with particular attention to the activities of the food production and administration sector.
