The boy who died last night in yet another road tragedy was just 15 years old. Riccardo Coglitore, 15 years old in May, a student from Verona Trento who attended IE, lost his life in the collision between a moped and a car. The accident occurred just before 7pm along the road that connects via Degli Agrumi with via Guardia, a small road located behind the green car park of the San Filippo Stadium and which leads to the village of San Filippo.
The dynamics of the collision is being reconstructed by the Accident Section of the Municipal Police. The officers remained on site for a long time to carry out investigations and clarify the phases of the clash.
According to an initial reconstruction, the fifteen-year-old was traveling on a Moto Cross 50, a small-displacement two-wheeled vehicle which suddenly collided with a Ford Fiesta driven by a man. The impact caused the boy to be thrown from the saddle and hit the asphalt violently. The collision was fatal for the fifteen-year-old who died practically instantly. The driver immediately stopped to help and call for help. Unfortunately, the arrival of two ambulances at the scene of the accident, one of which was medicalised, proved useless. Despite the doctors’ attempts, there was nothing that could be done for the boy.
In the meantime, several patrols of municipal police officers arrived on site, including commander Giovanni Giardina and the commander of the accident section Giovanni Arizzi. The medical examiner was also on site for an initial examination of the body. The car and the moped were seized as part of the investigations coordinated by the magistrate on duty. Alcohol and drug tests have been arranged for the motorist.
The news of the young life lost on the street immediately spread like wildfire. Numerous children, even the young man’s age, some with their parents, wanted to go to the place. Some could not hold back their tears and despair, many were in disbelief that such a tragedy could have happened. Riccardo lived with his family in Santa Lucia, he was a student at Verona Trento and also attended the On Stage musical and acting academy. Those who knew him describe him as a quiet boy, with no worries in his head.
Mayor Federico Basile’s message to the family
A tragedy that leaves us speechless and deeply affects the entire community. Riccardo’s young life, cut short at 15, leaves our city dismayed. I express my most sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to his family and all his loved ones in this moment of immense pain.
The memory of the Verona-Trento Institute
“Terrible news broke our hearts yesterday. There are students who cross the school on tiptoe and others who fill it with their presence. Riccardo – we read in a message written by the Verona-Trento Institute of Messina in memory of the tragic death of the 15-year-old who died yesterday evening in a terrible accident – belonged to this second category. Lively, engaging, cheerful, he entered class 1 and bringing with him energy, enthusiasm and a contagious desire to tell his story and share what he it was happening, his thoughts, his dreams, his passions. It was impossible to remain strangers to him. He spoke of his dream of having a motorbike, a desire he stubbornly pursued and finally came true. He spoke of the music, which he deeply loved, and of the thrill of performing at the school’s Talent, where he was able to show his desire to get involved.”
And again: “Riccardo was full of life, always on the move, always projected towards what he loved. It was impossible not to notice his presence, just as today it is impossible not to feel the emptiness of his absence. The pain that goes through our school community is immense. Our moved and sincere embrace reaches his family. Hello Riccardo, even if the time given to you was too short, the memory you leave will be much greater than time itself. The entire community of Verona Trento clings to the pain of the family of our young student.”
