The negotiations for the transfer of ownership of Cosenza Calcio to the group led by the Presilano entrepreneur Vincenzo Rota remain extremely complicated. An official statement is also expected between today and tomorrow which should provide further clarity on the status of the negotiation. Barring sudden accelerations, the operation seems destined to end without an agreement. The distances between the parties continue to be significant. On the one hand, the group represented by Rota would have expressed its willingness to take over the club by assuming the entire debt exposure of the rossoblù company. On the other hand, President Eugenio Guarascio would continue to ask for a further economic outlay quantifiable at around 2-3 million euros in addition to debt coverage. A scenario that still leaves the future of the Sila association uncertain.
The square is waiting to know the next moves of the property and, above all, to understand if new subjects interested in taking up the baton could emerge on the horizon. In the meantime, the debate on the possible birth of a second team that could represent the city if no other solutions materialize is taking shape among the rossoblù supporters. What sparked discussion in the last few hours was a meeting held on Saturday evening by “Affavorì”, in which some historic Cosenza fans and several local entrepreneurs took part. Among those present were also Alfredo Citrigno and Sergio Mazzuca, the latter having been close to Vincenzo Rota for some time. The rumors circulated in the following hours inevitably fueled rumors about possible future developments. However, those directly involved urge caution. Also present at the evening was former rossoblù Ugo Napolitano, currently involved in the opening of a football school in Aprigliano, who would have expressed appreciation for any projects aimed at the rebirth of the city’s football.
The position expressed by Sergio Mazzuca is very clear and he downplayed the rumors that arose around the meeting, explaining that the participation was linked exclusively to a charity dinner promoted by Sergio Crocco. «We were about ten entrepreneurs – explained Mazzuca -. Since we are all Cosenza fans we inevitably also talked about football, but on our part there is no concrete plan. We are following the situation, but at the moment we are not interested in taking any initiative.” More detailed, however, is the reflection of Alfredo Citrigno, who, although not confirming any imminent operation, highlighted how the desire to relaunch city football is very strong. «There is no certain news on the birth of a second team – he declared -. It is important to avoid raising expectations or spreading unverified information. First we need to let the events mature and then, possibly, present concrete projects with a press conference.” According to Citrigno, the passion of the fans could also push towards a restart from the lower categories, but it would still be a complex path that would require the availability of the brand, the sports title, the concession of the San Vito-Marulla stadium and numerous other bureaucratic and organizational steps. Precisely on the topic of the sports facility, the entrepreneur has no doubts: «Playing at the “Marulla” would be fundamental. A possible new team would make no sense if it were forced to play its matches far from Cosenza. The home of city football must remain “Marulla”.
Another entrepreneur, Pino Citrigno, also spoke on the issue, expressing a prudent position but at the same time full of ideas for the future. «To date there is no news – he explained – and I believe that a second team is not an immediately viable solution. If you want to build something serious you need to plan carefully and create a strong company, made up of local entrepreneurs willing to guarantee investments for at least three or four years.” The former rossoblù manager then recalled the experience of 2007, when together with Paletta and Chianello he contributed to bringing football back to the city through the transfer of the Rende sports title.
