An extraordinary performance that evokes myth and dreams, enchanting the audience of the Annibale Maria di Francia Theater. A dialogue between memory and present, past and future that unfolds perfectly in the two shows “Medea – The forgotten story”, an original reinterpretation of the famous myth proposed by the theatrical and dance laboratory of the “Maurolico” high school, and “Dream, boy, dream”, performed by the students of the “Mazzini” comprehensive institute, inspired by “Dead Poets Society” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, all masterfully directed by the prof. Sergio Foscarini.
The evening curtain opened on “Medea – The forgotten story”. The acting of all the young actors was surprising, as they dominated the scenes and fascinated the audience, with a wonderful Astra Fazio in the role of Medea and an excellent Jason, played by Giole Bagalà. «The show is not a simple revival of the classic model – explains Foscarini – but a rewriting that chooses to shift the gaze. The center is not the crime, but the path that leads to it. Before being a “monster”, Medea is a woman, a foreigner, a wise woman, a mother. He is a powerful figure, in a world that tolerates power only if it belongs to men.” Medea offers a reflection on the themes of identity, prejudice and justice. «An intense representation – comments the school director, Giovanna De Francesco – which emotionally involved all of us. A truly great emotion. We are proud of our wonderful kids.”
In the afternoon, the very young and talented actors of the “Mazzini” Institute performed, brilliantly bringing to the stage “Sogna, boy, dream”, a representation resulting from the work carried out with the collaboration of the students of the “Maurolico”, who participated in the co-direction (Gioele Bagalà, Sabrina Borgia, Elisabeth Fazio, Teresa Martelli, Nicolò Molina and Martino Velardi), as part of the school-work training project. «Our students have shown us that when the school offers authentic learning opportunities – says the head teacher, Nicola Labate – they know how to surprise us. In just a few months, they have faced and made their own complex texts, inspired by extraordinary works, dealing with languages, emotions and profound meanings.”
Through different but complementary languages, the students of the two schools were the protagonists of a single theatrical journey, which celebrates the value of education, art and participation. To the implementation of the artistic path, together with prof. Foscarini, the teachers Mimma Cubeta, Stefania Crisafulli, Costantino Lauria, Angelina Macrì, Tiziana Marchese, Alessia La Rosa and the artist Marilisa Bonanno collaborated.
