Andrea Kimi Antonelli is now unstoppable. The Mercedes driver dominates the 2026 Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix undisputedly and takes home his fifth consecutive victory. The world championship leader leaves his pursuers no escape and, despite the safety car and red flag, gets the better of Lewis Hamilton, who once again takes Ferrari to second place. Pierre Gasly (Alpine) is third at the finish line, but slips to seventh place after a 5″ penalty. Isack Hadjar’s Red Bull takes the podium, ahead of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, fourth. Third place vanishes at the end for Charles Leclerc, who ends up on the wall due to an alleged brake problem. The other Mercedes of George Russell, due to a penalty, ends up outside the points zone, in fourteenth position. Max Verstappen’s race ends first than expected due to a problem at the start, which forced him to retire. Same fate for Lando Norris, who ended a disastrous weekend with McLaren. Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad (Racing Bulls), Alexander Albon (Williams), Esteban Ocon (Haas) and Sergio Perez (Cadillac) completed the top 10.
Antonelli’s joy: “An incredible weekend”
“It was an incredible weekend, one of those days where we had a sensational pace. It all came very naturally to me, but it’s not over, the season is still long. We need to keep pushing and raise the bar. The team is doing an extraordinary job and is supporting me a lot. I’m having a great moment.” Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli said this after his triumph in the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix. “I didn’t want to restart after the red flag, but I tried to regain concentration. Once I restarted, I tried to get to the first corner first because it was fundamental”, explains the world championship leader.
Hamilton’s satisfaction: “A second place here is special”
“Congratulations to Kimi and Mercedes, they are doing an incredible job. We are progressing, but we still can’t keep up with them. Getting another second place is special, especially here in Monaco with difficult conditions. The car is nice, but we need more downforce. I ran out of tires quite early, it was tough also due to temperature problems.” Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton said this at the end of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, where he finished in second place.
Leclerc’s bitterness: “It’s frustrating”
«I don’t think it was a problem with the track. When the brakes worked, I had some grip. I don’t hide behind excuses. I blamed myself several times, but today I couldn’t do absolutely anything. The rear brake was as if it weren’t there, it’s not good enough and even dangerous.” Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc said this to Sky Sport at the end of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix. «It’s very frustrating, I don’t even have the words. I was very stressed in the pit lane, because by slowing down I risked getting a penalty. This, however, is a detail. The only thing that gives me hope is that we have the solution at home. Lewis has taken a different direction, I will do so from the next race”, underlines the Monegasque.
