Dream of a late spring night. Yes, because we are not yet in summer, but Brunello Cucinelli brings us in advance to the beautiful season, with his “Mediterranea” collection presented in Modica on the steps of the majestic Cathedral of San Giorgio, in a unique and enchanted atmosphere, just like in a fairy tale from times gone by.
The light, the colours, the baroque friezes, the gold and silver, which recall the sparkle of the sea, the iridescence of the shell, chosen as the symbol of this capsule, acted as the common thread of the event which enhanced the magic of Sicily. An island that fully embodies the Mediterranean spirit: a crossroads of sea, history and cultures, synthesis of a civilization that has its roots in Greek classicism and reaches one of its most refined expressions in the Baroque. Among the cities that preserve this legacy, Modica stands out as one of the most evocative. The scenographic architecture, carved in stone and modeled by light, tells of an artistic tradition of extraordinary richness: monumental facades, stuccos and decorative motifs that animate the city with timeless elegance, among which the ancient and universal shape of the shell prevails.

An evening which saw the model Bianca Balti as guest and testimonial, and then the actress Hayley Atwell, the model Poppy Dele Vigne and more than two hundred international guests fascinated by the beauty of the location, the clothes, the hospitality of the brand, which saw Carolina Cucinelli, Brunello’s daughter do the honours, given that her father Brunello, is at the Taormina Film Festival bringing his docufilm “Brunello the polite visionary”, presented in Rome last December. «Our bond with Sicily is strong – he tells us – We have relatives in Mazara del Vallo and we spent happy moments there with them, carefree summers and we learned to appreciate the light and colors of this wonderful land. Modican stone perfectly embodies and encloses the allure of Mediterranea, which favors natural shades illuminated by iridescent flashes, in simple shapes, but with volumes and details that nod to the Baroque. And then the Sicilian values are the same ones we have in Solomeo: the custody of identity, of roots, love for art and culture.”
Enhancing everything is the splendid voice of Malika Ayane who, in addition to her covers, has reinterpreted hits from the 60s, such as “Together with you I’m not there anymore” by Caterina Caselli or the legendary “Nel Blu diretta di Blu” by Domenico Modugno, emblem of the Bel Paese. Sight and hearing are delighted, as is taste, tickled by the delicacies of Modica chef Lorenzo Ruta.

In short, for one evening Modica is at the center of the world, “finally!” – says the mayor Maria Monisteri, who even opened her house to guests. «This is the leap in quality that the city deserved. Our DNA marries perfectly with that of Cucinelli: the Mediterranea collection is the perfect synthesis of our two realities.”
Translated into clothes: for him light, raw linen suits, coarsely woven pullovers on the shoulders, espadrilles and a casual holiday air. For her, fresh and light garments and a shower of gold and silver for the blouses/jackets, tops and scaled dresses that recall the liveries of the most exotic fish. A triumph of authentic elegance that the setting of the Cathedral of San Giorgio, illuminated specifically, was able to enhance.
