New resources for the Sicilian territories affected by bad weather. The Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies Nello Musumeci, has approved a further allocation of 35.35 million euros – from the National Emergency Fund – for interventions linked to the state of emergency already declared as a consequence of the exceptional meteorological events which between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 affected the municipalities of Acireale, Giarre and Riposto, in the metropolitan city of Catania, and the territory of the metropolitan city of Messina.
Events and interventions
The allocation concerns the damage caused by the disturbances of 10-14 November 2024 in the Catania area and by the waves of bad weather of 16 and 17 January and 2 February 2025 in the Messina area. The state of emergency for these areas was declared on 4 June 2025, with an initial allocation of 12.6 million euros, then supplemented by another 6.45 million for the restoration of public services and infrastructure and, recently, extended for twelve months. The new resources will be used to continue and complete the intervention plan entrusted to the delegate commissioner.
The extension for the Vicenza area
In the same session, the Council of Ministers also ordered the extension, for twelve months, of the state of emergency declared as a consequence of the exceptional meteorological events of 17 and 18 April 2025 in the municipalities of Arzignano, Brogliano, Cornedo Vicentino, Recoaro Terme, Trissino and Valdagno, in the province of Vicenza.
