Safeer Ahmed and Ali Raza remain in prison, the two thirty-one-year-old Pakistanis held responsible for what happened on June 1st at the Ip service station, on State Road 106, near Amendolara, where four laborers (Pakistani Waseem Khan, 29 years old, and Afghans Amin Fazal Khogjani, 28 years old, Ullah Ismat Qiemi, 19 years old, and Safi Iayjad, 27 years old) were killed by burning alive. This was decided by the Court of Review of Catanzaro, dissolving the reservation.
The judges therefore rejected the request made, during last Tuesday’s hearing, by the defenders of the two, the lawyer Giovanni Brandi Cordasco Salmena and the lawyer Giulia Montilli who, in providing a different reconstruction of the facts, especially in relation to the motive which, in their opinion, was not to be attributed to work reasons or exploitation of work, but to personal facts, had requested the invalidity or attenuation of the precautionary measures against their clients. The Court of Review, in confirming the detention of the two Pakistanis, reserved 45 days to file the reasons.
“Based on the reasons we will decide whether or not to go to the Court of Cassation, however, beyond this, we will know how the judges assessed the facts especially regarding the motive and the aggravating circumstances”, argued the lawyer Giovanni Brandi Cordasco Salmena, contacted by telephone.
