The regional councilor for Tourism, Work and Economic Development of the Calabria Region, Giovanni Calabrese, comments on the approval by the Regional Council of the act of direction which kicks off the initiatives for the valorisation and promotion of the Calabrian tourist-seaside resorts awarded the 2026 Blue Flag, for which the Region has allocated up to 405 thousand euros as part of the annual executive plan for tourism promotion.
A step forward for international tourism
“The approval by the Regional Council of the act of direction dedicated to the valorisation of the Calabrian locations awarded the 2026 Blue Flag – declares the Calabrese councilor – represents a further step in the path undertaken by the Calabria Region to strengthen the positioning of our destination in the national and international tourism panorama, focusing on quality, sustainability and the valorisation of territorial excellence.
There are 27 Blue Flags won by Calabria in 2026, a result that confirms the constant growth path of our region in terms of environmental quality, services and tourist hospitality. An achievement that rewards the work carried out by municipal administrations, tourist operators and all those who contribute every day to the protection and enhancement of our coastal heritage”.
Investments and growth objectives for the territories
“With an allocation of up to 405 thousand euros – explains the representative of the Occhiuto Council – we intend to support a targeted promotion program, capable of highlighting our coastal excellence and transforming the prestigious recognition of the Blue Flag into a concrete growth opportunity for the territories. This mark certifies not only the quality of the water and services, but also the commitment of local administrations to environmental protection, sustainability and hospitality.
The objective is to broaden the reasons for traveling to the Calabria destination, increasing extra-regional, national and international tourist attractiveness and enhancing the awarded locations as examples of a modern, sustainable and competitive tourist offer”.
Sustainability, deseasonalization and looking to 2027
Councilor Calabrese also specifies that “The provision fits fully into the framework of the regional planning envisaged by the legislation on tourism and by the planning tools adopted by the Region, from the Regional Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development to the Annual Executive Plan for Tourism Promotion 2026. It is a choice consistent with our vision, which aims to promote territorial identities, support initiatives capable of generating new tourist flows and favoring the deseasonalization of the offer. We want to accompany the communities that have achieved this important milestone, transforming the recognition of the Blue Flag into an effective tool for economic promotion and development.
In this direction – he adds – with the regional councilor for the Environment Antonio Montuoro we will continue to support the Municipalities in the path towards the Blue Flag for 2027, with the aim of further increasing the number of Blue Flags in Calabria.
The 27 Blue Flags – concludes Calabrese – today represent a heritage of the whole of Calabria and a powerful vehicle for promoting our destination, capable of attracting new visitors and consolidating the image of the region as a land of sea, quality, sustainability and beauty, to be experienced throughout the year”.
