Planning the future of the city also means enhancing its history and recovering the important testimonies of the past. There is still work to be done on this front. Once the administrative elections have ended, councilor Enzo Caruso has regained his powers for culture and tourism. Same desk, same drawers. You can proceed without an alibi in this “second half”.
«There are several projects that should be implemented in the short term – reports Caruso – such as the opening of Forte Ogliastri to the public and the valorisation of the modern art gallery of the Palacultura in Viale Boccetta». From ancient fortifications to figurative arts. We work to transform “neglected” heritage into new points of reference. But there is also much more planned.
The city with a “tourist vocation” can make the leap in quality and finally become, and simply, “tourist”. Caruso is thinking of a better welcome for those disembarking from cruise ships – new street furniture is planned in Largo Minutoli – but also of routes different from those which, in the urban centre, revolve around the Cathedral. On the agenda is the development of “experiential tourism” routes with excursions to the villages on the outskirts of Messina where traditions are still alive.
Returning to the city center, another important goal to be achieved is the construction of the house museum of Antonello da Messina.
