Thanks to the joint intervention of the Vibo Valentia Coast Guard and the Ricadi Fire Brigade, the fifty-year-old swimmer who was injured on Friday evening after slipping from a sheer cliff was saved.
The man suffered head trauma and several fractures. The particular shape of the area prevented the 118 personnel, who intervened with an ambulance, from reaching him directly.
The injured man was first rescued by a fire brigade team and subsequently recovered by a Coast Guard boat, which beached on site to allow rescue operations. Transported by sea to the port of Tropea, he was then entrusted to the care of 118 healthcare personnel.
The episode, which occurred at the beginning of the summer season, draws attention to the importance of prudence when visiting the coasts, especially in the most inaccessible areas.
