«I decided to return to Calabria because I felt the need». The story of Mattia Madeo, a young Calabrian doctor who recently graduated from the University of Parma, begins with these words and is the protagonist of a reel published on social media by the president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto.

The turning point after the Botox emergency

«This journey – reveals Doctor Madeo – begins because I have personally experienced unpleasant experiences and I thought I had ended relations with my land. Then the botulinum emergency: in the various television reports I often saw Professor Bruni speaking and this led me to send an email. He responded to me with great enthusiasm and great availability. I met Professor Bruni personally and therefore a collaboration began from there. As a recent graduate they allowed me to attend the Dulbecco hospital, then on July 21st I will participate in the competition for the specialization school and I will compete exclusively for the inter-university seat of the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro and Unical”.

The improvements in Calabrian healthcare and the appeal to colleagues

«In Calabrian healthcare I have found great improvements, staff attentive to the person, attentive to treatment, attentive to research and above all open resuscitation, states Doctor Madeo, who finally addresses «an invitation to Calabrian colleagues who today live or work in the Centre-North: return to Calabria to enhance this undervalued territory. There is still a lot of work to do, but we are in the right direction.” Occhiuto’s welcome back for the young doctor: «Calabria thanks you, Doctor Madeo», concludes the President of the Region.
