Neither the major emergencies to be faced (health, work and environment) nor the imminent (?) enlargement of the regional council. It is the issue of high-speed rail that “inflames” an already hot climate in Calabria. The mega project that has been talked about for years risks remaining on paper, despite the optimism liberally expressed by parliamentarians Simona Loizzo and Tilde Minasi, both custodians of Salvini orthodoxy in these latitudes.
The optimism shown by the two Northern League members risks “out of tune” even with the line – decidedly more realistic – followed by the governor Roberto Occhiuto. The President of the Region, last Saturday, in an interview with SkyTg24 admitted without mincing words that high speed “has not yet reached Calabria” and that the issue will have to be addressed “in the coming years”. A stance that attracted criticism from several centre-left exponents.
