It transported approximately 15 quintals of non-hazardous special waste without the documentation required by law and without being registered in the national register of environmental managers. For this reason, a 42-year-old was reported in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Catanzaro by the carabinieri of the Sellia Marina Company, who intervened together with the soldiers of the Forestry Carabinieri Unit of Sersale.

The intervention took place as part of a series of checks aimed at combating the illicit management of waste along the main road arteries. During a checkpoint on Highway 106, the military stopped a truck carrying rubble, cement and rubble from the demolition of a house.

Forms and authorizations were missing

The investigations made it possible to verify that the transport was carried out without the waste identification forms (FIR), mandatory for this type of material. Furthermore, the driver was found not to be registered in the National Register of Environmental Managers, an essential requirement to carry out the activity.

In light of the irregularities found, the Carabinieri proceeded with the preventive seizure of the truck and the entire load of construction waste, charging the 42-year-old with the crime of illicit transportation of waste.

The operation is part of the control activities of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Catanzaro, aimed at combating environmental crimes and protecting the territory and public health.
