With a note addressed to the General Director of the Consortium, the president asked to activate all the preparatory requirements for the planning and design of the new infrastructures, considered strategic for improving the mobility and safety of the regional motorway network.

The interventions identified by the Consortium concern four infrastructures considered priorities:

  • the completion of the A18 Siracusa-Gela motorway, with the construction of the section between Gela and Scicli;
  • the construction of the third lane on the A18 Messina-Catania motorway, an intervention intended to improve the capacity of the network and the fluidity of traffic;
  • the construction of three roundabouts at the Patti junction, along the connection between the motorway toll booth, the urban center and the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway;
  • the construction of the new Gioiosa Marea junction on the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway.

Objective: improve security and connections

According to the Consortium, the interventions identified are aimed at strengthening the accessibility of the territories, increasing traffic safety and making the entire Sicilian motorway network more efficient, with positive repercussions also on the economic and social development of the areas concerned.

Inclusion in the Three-Year Program represents the first step in the administrative process which will lead to the definition of the projects and the subsequent identification of the economic resources necessary for the realization of the works.
