“Revenge is a desire of our nation and must certainly be carried out.” This was stated by the Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in a message written for the funeral and burial of his father Ali Khamenei, relaunched by the Iranian media. “We promise to avenge your pure blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two wars, at the hands of these criminal and dishonorable murderers,” the statement continues, addressing the late leader.
Threats to “criminals”
«These criminals, whose names are listed from lowest to highest rank, will take with them to the grave the desire for a peaceful death in their bed. They must know that this does not depend on me or other officials. Whether we are alive or not, this goal will be achieved and soon free people around the world will each fulfill a part of this divine mission,” the leader said, quoted by state television.
The reference to the funeral crowd
In another passage of his message, Mojtaba Khamenei wanted to «express sincere appreciation for the presence of tens of millions of people, who are extraordinary, who are defeating the enemies in the cities and villages of Iran and Iraq, especially in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala and Mashhad» at the funeral of Ali Khamenei.
The Supreme Leader no one has ever seen
The message comes from a man who, since taking office, has never appeared in public. Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded his father after the air raid on February 28, the first day of the war launched by Israel and the United States against Iran, in which Ali Khamenei was killed. According to international intelligence sources reported by the press, the new Supreme Leader was seriously injured in the same attack: she never appeared in public, not even in a video message, and did not attend the six days of her father’s funeral, at which her brothers Masoud, Meysam and Mostafa were instead present. In the raid on February 28, according to Iranian media reports, a daughter, a son-in-law and a granddaughter of Ali Khamenei were also killed, as well as Zahra Haddad Adel, Mojtaba’s wife. They were buried together with him in the shrine of Imam Reza.
